A football match involves 22 players. It also involves two referees - a center referee and his or her assistant. The referees are in charge of the match proceedings by deciding when to start the match and when to bring it to an end. They decide when a goal is scored and when a foul is committed or an infringement is made.
A football match also involves two linesmen that take care of the lines by raising the flag when the football goes out of play or a foul is committed. They also spot other issues such as offside positions and corner kicks which the center referee may not necessarily see.
If any team wants to win a match, the first thing the players and team officials have to do is to play according to the rules of the game. The players should not make the referee to be angry with them because that alone can make them lose the match. Yes the referee is the controller of the match so you don't have to quarrel with him or her.
The referee may not be the best referee in the whole world but you have to remember that he is a human so there's no way his or her call will all be in order. You can explain to him or her certain things that happen on the field of play especially as the captain of your team but you don't have to be confrontational nor do you have complain whenever he or she blows the whistle because your teammate committed a foul as observed by the referee.
Another way of winning a match is to play according to your coach's instructions. Your coach sees more than you can see and that is why he or she is a coach so you don't have to play anyhow you want to play thinking that after all you are a big player. And so as a big player nobody even the coach can control you. Remember, individual skills don't win a match. What wins a match is teamwork.
